I love having access to a phenomenal public transit system. However, that access is threatened regularly by the fear of being assaulted. No, it doesn’t happen so much that I won’t ride, but it is still in the back of my mind. Today on Defying Gentrification, I open up with talking about a recent incident where if I was in the middle of it, I would have felt in the middle and what we need to do as a community, to keep us safe, because the cops and gates aren’t working folks.
Then, I talk about why we must eradicate gentrification, specifically three ways: care, infrastructure, and access.
