Resurrecting my podcasting career!
A special note from Kristen about the re-launch of her podcast, under the Defying Gentrification banner + updates on the Defying Gentrification fellowship.
Hey, y'all. Today was the perfect day, a day many of us raised and practicing Chrisitans think about resurection and new life, to tell you that I’m podcasting again, after five years of hiatus.
As I started working on the fellowship course, I felt like something was missing, plus, I realized I needed something to get people excited.
I had an email drafted up a few weeks ago, that was much more negative and depressing in tone as I wasn't seeing any success in the initial launch of the fellowship, but I decided not to send it, thanks to a mentee reaching out and stating that they wanted to take a version of the course.
I’ve had other conversations like that, along with being in a six-week business intensive, that’s led me to think long and hard about how I want to do business and life.
If you’ve been here for a while, you know that I do this a lot.
For the nearly 14 years I’ve been doing a version of this work, the number one thing I’ve wanted was a place to call home. For all of me, all of my various labels and identities, many of those marginalized, to call home.
Plus, with me having so many professional interests and fixations, I realize that I’ve been focused on things like sound quality, rather than just showing up and being present.
I’ve also worried about being a flake.
But today, I realize the spirit of defying gentrification, plain and simple, is to just be and exist.
No time limits. No deadlines. Abundance. Breath. Courage. Creativity. Trying.
So, in that spirit, I present to you, the trailer of the Defying Gentrification podcast, and next Friday, April 5, my first full episodes will premiere:
They will be released on Fridays, starting on this coming Friday, April 5. I’ll be reviewing some of the hot topics and news of the week in urbanism, and alternating interviews with your favorite people of urbanism with one-on-ones with me deep diving on how and why to defy and eradicate gentrification.
The Defying Gentrification Fellowship will be its special fan club, there for you to dive deeper into those ways and to be able to work one-on-one with me to not just learn about this topic, but to take action, in your way, in your community.
I really miss being out on the road, and while I will be doing more of that, I realize that anytime I want, well, at least once, maybe twice a week, I can talk to you about defying gentrification.
You can listen to the podcast on all your favorite platforms and join our fellowship program anywhere and anytime.
For those of you who are existing paid Substack subscribers, this will be a benefit for folks at any paid level until further notice, with content reminders and links posted here. However, the Podia platform is better organized with content and links back to prior lectures. Also, my podcast won’t be hosted here on Substack, but I will be sending out links and transcripts here each week.
In the fellowship course, there’s already a lesson loaded on creating your personal story to defy and eradicate gentrification and each week on Mondays, I'll be rotating through doing a lesson on all six themes/ways of defiance and means of eradicating gentrification.
In addtion, this course can be customized for your organization or educational facility. Send me a note at kristen@theblackurbanist.com if that is an option you would like to pursue.
Thanks for your patience. I'm confident that shifting the focus of this work to deyfing and eradicating gentrification, along with a sprinkle of crafting liberation, is exactly what I need to continue to create that home for myself, with an ample front porch for you to sit for a spell, virtually and in physical space.
Take care and I'll see you on Friday for our first Defying Gentrification podcast episodes!
Until next time,
Kristen
Exciting news!!
